about

About this Track:
For the Birds is a fight song calling out the denial of sexism and oppression. The lyrics are honest and raw while the track itself is upbeat, catchy, and danceable. For the Birds is the perfect summer song to rock out to while you road trip to your nearest protest.

For the Birds explores the theme of denial, stage one of the grief cycle, through its references of 1900’s coal miners and the Time’s Up movement. It celebrates the ideology that every human deserves a right to earn a living, take care of themselves and their families and live free from harassment, sexual assault and discrimination! The song references the sentiments in McCartney’s Blackbird - “you were only waiting for this moment to arise” - and responds with “Don’t wait - The moment has arrived!”

lyrics

Lyrics:
Hide yourself by the sea
Isolation sanctuary
Denial’s on trial for the first time in a while
Send canary down the coal mine
You’re okay so I’m sure it’s just fine
Drop them all down in single file.

Hide yourself, absentee
Segregated matrimony
Fend off the mob - tend to your desires
Don’t care the cost - it’s all for money
Pay the price with alimony
You hang us all like crows on a wire.

Time’s up. Break through.
Don’t you know the crowd’s coming for you?
Hold up. Déjà vu.
Repeat like you always do.

Can you hear the blackbird singing?
In the dead of night it’s bringing a call for all who’ve survived
Fight the flock, wreck the herd
Roaring freedom for the birds
Don’t wait, the moment has arrived.

Whatever you’ve said whatever you’ve heard
Whatever’s been bled whatever’s been blurred
Roaring freedom for the birds.
